From 2002 to 2003, she completed an internship in therapy at the City Clinical Hospital No. 2 and a master's degree at the Department of Faculty Therapy at Pirogov National Medical University. Education and professional development
Dr Kolisnyk graduated with honours from National Pirogov Memorial Medical University in 2002. In 2001, he studied at the School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. He completed a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine with honours in 2003 and received his PhD in 2006 for the dissertation “Peculiarities of Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease with Atypical Manifestations.”
His professional training in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine has included programmes in Ukraine, the United States and Europe. He attended PRM schools in Vilnius and Marseille and intensive rehabilitation programmes involving the Medical College of Wisconsin, Marquette University, Herzing University, NSPA and other international partners.
From 2018 to 2022, he participated in the NSPA Project on Establishment of a PRM Education Programme for Physicians in Ukraine. This international professional pathway contributed to the integration of Ukrainian PRM into the European professional environment and to his subsequent European certification as a Fellow of the European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (FEBPRM), Certificate No. 3276.
In 2024 and 2025, he attended the Annual Comprehensive Review Course in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA. He also completed training in management and leadership in rehabilitation medicine at the UCU Business School.
Development of Ukraine’s modern rehabilitation system
Since 2015, Dr Kolisnyk has been actively involved in the systemic development of rehabilitation in Ukraine.
He has worked within coordination, expert and working groups involving national authorities, parliamentary structures and World Health Organization initiatives and working groups.
He is a co-author and contributor to rehabilitation legislation, including work that contributed to the Law of Ukraine “On Rehabilitation in Health Care” and subsequent implementation mechanisms.
He was directly involved in establishing Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine as a medical specialty in Ukraine, defining the professional role of PRM physicians and developing the national pathway for their education and training.
He is a co-author of PRM curricula for senior medical students, PRM interns and physicians undergoing specialist training. He contributed to the development and implementation of PRM internship and specialist-training programmes and is an author and reviewer of PRM items for the national KROK-3 medical licensing examination.
He served as National Manager of the WHO/Ministry of Health Educational Course in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Ukraine.
A separate component of his work has been sustained advocacy for the development of rehabilitation professions in Ukraine, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and rehabilitation nursing, as well as their full integration into multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams. He has contributed to defining professional roles, educational approaches, team-based models of care and their practical implementation within healthcare institutions.
ICF, professional terminology and international standards
Dr Kolisnyk is one of Ukraine’s national experts in implementation of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and led/coordinated expert work on its Ukrainian translation.
He contributed to the development of contemporary Ukrainian PRM terminology and is a co-author of “Conceptual Terminology of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.”
As a National ICF Trainer, he has delivered and organised more than 50 training activities for physicians and multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
He has led or contributed to translation, adaptation, professional editing and content quality assurance of international instruments, including the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI), ASIA Impairment Scale, and instruments used within the International Spinal Cord Injury Community Survey (InSCI).
He participates in the international InSCI scientific collaboration and represents Ukraine within this field.
He also contributed to the translation and professional editing of the Ukrainian edition of Braddom’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 6th edition.
Education and rehabilitation workforce development
Dr Kolisnyk has been one of the organisers of systematic postgraduate PRM training in Ukraine.
He has contributed to 16 cohorts of PRM specialist training, the education of more than 500 physicians, and five generations of PRM interns.
More than 3,400 healthcare professionals have been directly trained through national programmes developed, organised or delivered with his participation, with several thousand additional professionals reached through digital educational resources. He has initiated, organised, co-organised or delivered more than 100 professional educational and scientific events.
He has developed and delivered educational programmes in collaboration with WHO, UNDP, RECOVERY, Nova Ukraine and other Ukrainian and international partners, including training programmes for rehabilitation teams working in wartime conditions.
Together with Baylor College of Medicine and the Medical College of Wisconsin, he contributed to the development, adaptation and delivery of educational programmes for Ukrainian rehabilitation teams addressing complex combat injuries, polytrauma, amputations, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and the realities of healthcare delivery during war.
Through long-standing Ukrainian-American collaboration with Alex Moroz, MD, MHPE, Rusk Rehabilitation, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and U.S. medical residents, he has organised regular clinical knowledge exchange, joint discussion of complex combat-injury cases and educational activities for Ukrainian rehabilitation professionals alongside American clinical teams.
Within Rehab Hub UA, RECOVERY and Superhumans initiatives, he has participated in joint educational activities with representatives and faculty of Harvard Medical School, professional presentations and selection of Ukrainian candidates for Harvard Medical School educational programmes.

Professional leadership and national policy
Dr Kolisnyk is a Board Member of the Ukrainian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and President of its Vinnytsia Regional Branch.
He is a member of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) and the European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM).
He is a co-founder of the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, the School of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and the Centre of Medical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine in Vinnytsia.
He has served as Advisor to the Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine on Rehabilitation and previously as Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine on Rehabilitation.
His work has included development of rehabilitation within military healthcare institutions, establishment of staffed physical therapist and occupational therapist positions in military hospitals, development of acute and post-acute rehabilitation pathways, rehabilitation pathways for service members and veterans, and coordination between military and civilian rehabilitation systems.
He also initiated advocacy for the preservation of Ukraine’s state prosthetic and orthotic infrastructure and systematic representation of the interests of state-owned prosthetic and orthotic enterprises at national level. Through joint work with the then leadership of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and other national authorities, three state-owned enterprises that remained at risk of divestment were preserved in public ownership.
Development of rehabilitation services
For many years, Dr Kolisnyk has provided expert, organisational, clinical and educational support to the majority of rehabilitation departments and centres established or substantially reorganised in Vinnytsia Region during the development of Ukraine’s modern rehabilitation system.
His contribution has included development of service concepts, multidisciplinary team structures, professional roles, patient pathways, clinical processes, documentation, ICF implementation and workforce training.
He has also advised healthcare institutions and rehabilitation teams in other regions of Ukraine on establishing and developing contemporary rehabilitation services.
RECOVERY, Superhumans and GMKA
Since 2023, Dr Kolisnyk has served as Clinical, Scientific and Educational Advisor to the RECOVERY National Rehabilitation Network, contributing to clinical quality, professional education, research development, outcome assessment, documentation, international partnerships and network-level system development.
He develops scientific and educational initiatives aimed at strengthening scientific literacy, critical use of evidence and clinical research capacity within multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
From 2024 to 2025, he served as Clinical, Scientific and Educational Advisor to Superhumans Center, contributing to clinical, educational and research programmes for people with amputations and other severe war-related injuries.
He also serves as Advisor on Rehabilitation Educational Projects to the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA).
International leadership and advocacy for Ukraine
For many years, Dr Kolisnyk has represented Ukrainian Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at international congresses, professional forums, expert meetings and educational platforms, including events of ISPRM and ESPRM.
His international work combines professional representation with advocacy for Ukraine, development of international partnerships and transfer of education, research collaboration, technologies and practical expertise into the Ukrainian rehabilitation system.
Since 2018, he has repeatedly participated in and spoken at professional events in the Baltic region, including Vilnius, Riga and Palanga, as well as at numerous international online events. Together with RECOVERY, he contributed to bringing Ukraine’s wartime rehabilitation experience to the centre of discussion at international rehabilitation forums in the region.
His professional and advocacy activities have also included the United States, Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and other Western European countries.
In 2023, he represented Ukraine in the Open World Congressional Office for International Leadership programme “Rehabilitation of Veterans” in the United States.
Prosthetics, international technology transfer and innovation
Dr Kolisnyk has contributed to efforts to introduce contemporary prosthetic technologies and international expertise into Ukraine.
In collaboration with professionals from the University of Toronto and Canadian partners, he worked on opportunities to introduce 3D-printing technologies for prosthetic applications and transfer relevant expertise to a Ukrainian state prosthetic and orthotic enterprise.
He has developed international professional links in prosthetics, including cooperation with the Victoria Hand Project and partners in the United States and Canada.
He was also among the initiators of international cooperation aimed at introducing modern urodynamic assessment for patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction in Ukraine.
His professional and research interests in innovation include artificial intelligence, digital health, wearable sensors, objective measurement of prosthesis use, 3D printing, telerehabilitation, robotics and clinical validation of medical technologies.
He serves as Clinical Consultant for AI Implementation at Remedylogic, providing clinical validation of algorithms, differential-diagnosis logic, dataset interpretation and communication between clinical and engineering teams.

Dr Kolisnyk is the author or co-author of more than 99 scientific publications and seven Ukrainian patents. His research is represented in PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science.
He has published in international journals including European Spine Journal, Global Spine Journal, World Neurosurgery, Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine and others.
One of his research areas focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning for clinical decision support, particularly in lumbar spinal disorders.
A clinical study describing comprehensive rehabilitation of a Ukrainian serviceman with triple-limb amputation following combat polytrauma was published in the Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine.
He is Co-Principal Investigator of EURIZON Research Grant #EU-3007, investigating artificial-intelligence methods for diagnosis and prognosis of chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
He is the Ukrainian project lead within an NWO–NRFU Partnership Initiative research project, implemented in collaboration with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and AdLap Systems and focused on real-world upper-limb prosthesis use, user experience, patient-reported outcomes and wearable-sensor data.
He serves as a Lead Educational Consultant and Rehabilitation Expert in an international project funded by the Government of France, supporting rehabilitation-service, education and infrastructure development in Vinnytsia Region.
