Encyclopaedic issue about the history of towns and villages of Ukraine consists of 26 volumes.

In gathering of materials and writing essays and references was involved the wider community: lecturers, teachers , journalists, political party members, Soviet, Komsomol and trade unions of  workers, historians, staff of archives, cultural educational institutions, veterans of labour and revolutionary battles  of the Great Patriotic War – approximately  two thousand persons. On the preparation of materials 26 town’s and district’s commissions, 660 working groups were employed. Volume contains 55 essays about towns, district centres and most significant settlements, 601 information about centres of village country (side) councils.
