Department of General Surgery was founded in 1934. From 1934 to 1940 department was headed by Professor Gurevich Grigory Markovich, from 1940-41 and 1944-45 – by Professor Lorin-Epstein Moses Yulievich, from 1945 to 1951 – by Professor Blagoveschchenskiy Michael Alexandrovich, from 1951 to 1954 – by Professor Caravanov Arkady Georgievich., from 1954 to 1970 – by Professor Yurihin Anatoliy Pavlovich, from 1970 to 1975 – by Professor Zabozlaev Sergei Sergeevich, 1975 to 1994 – by Professor Fishchenko Alexander Yakovlevich, 1994 to 2016 – by Professor Zheliba Nikolai Dmitrievich. Since 2016 the department was headed by Professor Khimich Sergii Dmitrievich.

In 1986 with honors he graduated from Vinnytsia Medical Institute named after M.I. Pirogov. From 1986 to 1988 he was trained in clinical internship at the Department of the General Surgery. Since 1988 he started working as the senior laboratory assistant, and since 1990 – the assistant of professor. In 1992 he defended the doctor's dissertation (PhD). In 2000 it was elected the associate professor of the general surgery. In 2002 he defended his dissertation for the “Doctor of medical science". In 2005, he was elected professor of department of the general surgery of VNMU named after M.I. Pirogov.
Professor S.D.Khimich also is the scientific secretary of the specialized scientific council of D. 05.600.01 for the defense of dissertations on surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, children's surgery, and also the Chairman of committee on bioethics Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pirogov.

Zheliba Nikolai

On faculty since 1976. In 1983 he defended a thesis on "Integrated Management of complicated cholecystitis in elderly and senile" for the degree of candidate of medical sciences. In 1988 he received the academic rank of assistant professor, Department of General Surgery. Doctoral thesis on " Prevention and treatment of postoperative wound infection and inflammatory diseases of soft tissues " protected in 2002, and in 2003 he received the title of Professor, Department of General Surgery.
Board member of the Association of Surgeons of Vinnitsa region, specialized scientific council D.05.600.01 - surgery.

Paliy Victor


full professor, doctor of medicine

In 1995 graduated from Vinnytsia State Medical Institute named after M.I. Pirogov, in 2002 - National Academy of Pharmacy of Ukraine. From 1995 to 1998 studied for a master's degree in surgery at the Department of General Surgery of Vinnytsia State Medical University named after M.I. Pirogov. In 2006 defended doctoral dissertation on "Microbiological substantiation of the use of Quaternary ammonium antiseptics in medicine." He lectures and conducts practical classes with 2nd and 3rd year students of medical and pharmaceutical faculties. He speaks English at B2 level (IELTS certificate). He has the highest certification category in surgery. Advises patients of the intensive care unit of Clical Hospital № 1 in Vinnytsia. Member of the specialized academic council K.05.600.05 of Vinnytsia National Pirogov Memeorial Medical University Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Inventor, co-author of 17 patents, 124 publications, 5 monographs and textbooks, in particular: "General Surgery", ed. prof. M.D. Zheliba, S.D. Khimich K. Medicine, 2010, "Microbiology (workshop)" Vinnytsia, Edelweiss and K, 2009, "Medical microbiology, virology, immunology", ed. Academician of the NAS, NAMS of Ukraine V.P. Shirobokova, Vinnytsia, Nova Kniga, 2011 (in Ukrainian), 2015 (in Russian). Has prepared three candidates of medical sciences.

Nagaichuk Vasil

He was born in 16 August 1947 in the village. Kudlay, Nemirovskiy District, Vinnitsa region. In 1972 he graduated from National Pirogov Memorial Medical Institute and after the internship in surgery at the Nemyriv Central Rerional Hospital from 1973 to 1976 worked as head of the surgical department for 25 beds in Oratovsky district hospital.
From 1976 doctor-ordinator burning department with 40 beds in Regional Pirogov Memorial Clinical Hospital, since 1987 - Head of the Burn aid department.
In 1995 he took an active part in organizing and opening the state rehabilitation department burn convalescents for 20 children and 40 adult beds at the sanatorium "Avanguard" Nemirov, Vinnytsia region.
In 1998 he defended his thesis on surgery "Biogalvanization in the acute period of burn disease." Since 2005 – Assistant Professor of General Surgery National Pirogov Memorial Medical University.
In 2009 he defended his doctoral dissertation on surgery "Tactics of early surgical treatment of superficial and deep burns using lyophilized ksenodermotransplantativ activated Biogalvanic shock."

Lutkovskyi Ruslan

Lutkovskyi Ruslan Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Doctor - Surgeon of the highest qualification category. Ruslan was born on March 1 1985 year in the village of Borivka, Chernivtsi district, Vinnytsia region. He has three higher educations: in 2007 year he graduated from the Medical Faculty of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pyrogov, received a doctor's degree, in 2011 year he graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pyrogov, received a qualification of a pharmacist and in 2020 year he graduated from the Western Ukrainian National University with a master's degree in public administration. From 2007 to 2010 year he passed an internship in the specialty "Surgery" at the Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pirogov at the Department of General Surgery. From 2010 to 2012 year he studied in the clinical residency at the Department of General Surgery of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pirogov. On September 1 2012 year he started working at the Department of General Surgery as an assistant - trainee. In January 2013 year he was transferred to the position of assistant of the Department of General Surgery. On January 29 2013 year he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic: ‟Substantiation of the effectiveness of surgical suture material modified with carbon nanotubes and antiseptics for the prevention of postoperative purulent complicationsˮ. In February 2017 year he was elected by the Academic Council of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pyrogov to the position of associate professor of the Department of General Surgery. On April 29 2021 year he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic: ‟Substantiation of development and use of nanomodified mesh implants for open and laparoscopic alloplasty of abdominal herniasˮ In December 2021 year he was elected by the Academic Council of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M.I. Pyrogov to the position of professor of the Department of General Surgery where he currently works.
The main directions of Ruslana research: nanomodified surgical sutures and nanomodified mesh implants with antimicrobial properties for hernia. Lutkovskyi R. is the author and co-author of more than 80 scientific papers, 14 utility model patents and 1 invention patent. Ruslan co-authored an information letter of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which was included in the register of sectoral innovations and introduced into medical practice. His scientific works have been presented and published in various publications in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and Moldova. Having mastered modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases, he constantly provides counseling to patients and conducts surgical interventions on the basis of the municipal non-profit enterprise ‟Vinnytsia City Clinical Hospital №1ˮ.

In 1972 he graduated from school with honors.
From 1972 to 1976 he studied at the Vinnytsia medical college. Ac, DK Zabolotny from wich he graduated with honors.
From 1976 to 1977 worked as a medical assistant in Vinnytsia regional hospital named after M.I. Pirogov.
From 1977 to 1979 underwent military service in the ranks of conscription of internal forces of the Ministry of domestic affairs of USSR in Kiev.
From 1979 to 1985 he studied at the Vinnytsia state Pirogov medical institute, which he graduated with honors.
From 1985 to 1987 he studied in clinical internship in surgery at the Department of Surgery ped. Faculty IUI them. MI Pirogov.

Final control
30.04.2022

According to the order of VNMU №157 from 11.03.2022 final control for 2nd and 3rd year students at the Department of General Surgery will be conducted remotely online on the platforms Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

Final control for 3rd year students in general surgery is conducted according to the study schedule (4 hours). For 3rd year students in nursing practice and 2nd year students in patient care is held at the last practical lesson.

To pass final control students must have completed all practical classes according to the curriculum. Taking into account the martial law, students who have up to 3 unfinished practical classes will be admitted to the diff. test with a mandatory answer to questions of missed topics during the conducting of final control.

Questions to final control, format and evaluation are on Google Disk of the department.

Credit points will be recorded in the student's record book by the teacher, as well as authorized persons of the department.
